OUR STORY
Inspired by the world.

House of Iris began with a photograph we nearly never took.
Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to travel together and experience places across the world. Again and again, we found ourselves passing iris photography studios and stopping to admire the artwork they created.
The idea fascinated us. Something as familiar as the human eye could be photographed, enlarged and transformed into something completely unexpected—an artwork that belonged to one person and no one else.

The photograph we kept postponing
For one reason or another, we never actually went through with it. Sometimes the studios were completely booked or surrounded by long queues. Other times, the price was so high that the experience no longer felt worthwhile or accessible.
During a recent cruise, we came across iris photography once again. This time, the price was around 180 dollars for an iris portrait. We loved the concept, but once again decided to walk away.
It felt as though something so personal and beautiful had been turned into an experience reserved only for those willing to pay a premium.

The moment the idea changed
A few days later, during a stop in Cádiz, we discovered someone offering iris photography on the street. It was simple, welcoming and, most importantly, affordable.
After seeing studios all over the world and repeatedly deciding against it, we finally had both of our irises photographed together. The experience was quick and unpretentious, but the result stayed with us.
We were looking at something that had always been part of us, yet which neither of us had ever truly seen.
Our irises were recognisably ours, but viewed at that scale they looked almost otherworldly. The fibres, colours and markings were more intricate than we could have imagined.
It felt more personal than a conventional portrait because it did not simply show what we looked like. It revealed a detail that was entirely individual to each of us.

Building something of our own
After returning home, we began researching the business behind the experience. We discovered that the company we had encountered formed part of a franchise, and for a time we considered following the same route.
But the more we looked into it, the clearer it became that joining an established system would limit what we could create. We would be working within somebody else's processes, somebody else's visual style and somebody else's idea of what the experience should be.
We did not want to reproduce an existing concept. We wanted the freedom to develop our own artwork, create our own editing process and offer products and prices that made sense for Gibraltar.
So we decided to build it independently. We researched the photography process, sourced specialist equipment, developed our own software and began creating the visual identity that would eventually become House of Iris.
There was no franchise, no large company and no ready-made system behind us—only two people, one shared experience and the belief that Gibraltar deserved something of its own.
WHY HOUSE OF IRIS?
A place where individuality belongs.
We would love to say the name arrived with an elaborate story, but the truth is simpler: after many conversations, ideas and discarded names, House of Iris was the one that felt right.
As the business developed, however, the name began to take on a meaning of its own. A house is somewhere people are welcomed. Somewhere memories are created, stories are kept and different identities can exist together.
That is what we want House of Iris to become: a home for the details that make every person different. A place where one iris, two irises or an entire family can become part of something personal and lasting.

What is iris photography? +
Iris photography captures the colour and intricate structure of your iris at very close range, then transforms it into high-resolution artwork.
Is the process safe? +
The process is non-invasive. We guide you through positioning and capture the image using specialist photographic equipment.
Can couples and families be combined? +
Yes. Two or three irises can be combined into a single composition, with larger family options available by quotation.
Can children take part? +
Children may take part where they can comfortably remain still during the short capture process. A parent or guardian must approve the session.
Do you attend weddings and events? +
Yes. We offer mobile packages for weddings, parties, corporate events and private celebrations. Packages are tailored around the venue, guest numbers, duration and chosen products.
